Granville’s Andy Drohen (The Ranch GC), who yesterday qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship after posting a 3-under par 68 at Stockbridge GC, continued his successful week by shooting a 4-under par 67 at Tekoa CC to finish atop the leaderboard. He finished five strokes ahead of second-place finisher, James Patterson (Tekoa CC). It marked the largest score differential between the first and scond finishers among all 2016 MGA Mid-Amateur qualifiers, while Drohen's score was also the lowest to date.

Drohen finished the day by carding either a birdie or par on all but one hole on Thursday. He made the turn at even-par 36 after a birdie on the 486-yard par 5 4th hole was wiped out by a bogey on the par 3 6th hole.

However, Drohen recorded four birdies on the back nine to end his round with a mark of 67. He registered birdies on Holes 11, 12, 14 and 17 while making par on the five additional holes of the back nine.

Joining him at TGC in Falmouth for Championship Proper on September 20-22 were seven others from the Tekoa qualifier, whose scores ranged 1-over 72 to 5-over 76. Three players finished T8 after shooting 6-over par 77 and will be listed as alternates and placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the MGA Policies & Procedures page.

The final MGA Mid Amateur qualifier will take place on August 17th at Cape Cod Country Club where 18 qualifiers and ties will advance to the 2016 Championship Proper.

Entries are open to amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by September 20, 2016, who hold membership at an MGA member club and have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 5.4 (as determined by the July 1, 2016 Handicap Revision), or who have completed their handicap certification.
