Junior Golf
Junior Schedule
As a means of assisting aspiring young golfers in their pursuit of
championship-caliber play, the MGA annually posts a junior tournament schedule,
which includes events sponsored throughout the season by a host of local,
regional and national organizations.

All dates and criteria are subject to change at the discretion of the sponsoring organization. Please contact representatives for the most updated information. In addition, here is a brief overview of the major organizations that host junior events.

As part of its Championship schedule, the United States Golf Association
conducts an annual U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, which is open to male
amateur competitors age 17 and under who have a Handicap Index of 6.4 or below.
The U.S. Girls' Junior Championship is open to amateur female competitors
age 17 and under who have a handicap index of 18.4 or below. Local qualifying
is conducted under the direction of the local golf associations. All entries
must be submitted with and are processed by the USGA.

The Massachusetts Golf Association annually conducts the Massachusetts Junior
Championship, which is open to amateur golfers who play at an MGA member club
who are under the age of 18. The Massachusetts Junior Championship began in
1914 but was expanded in 1961 to recognize and include three age groups: Junior,
Pre-Junior, Boys divisions. Qualifying is held at a variety of sites across
the state. The Championship field is limited to 120 players (60 players in
the Junior
Division, 40 players in the Pre-Junior Division and 20 players in the Boys
Division). All entries must be submitted with and are processed by the MGA.

Founded in 1900, the Women's Golf Association of Massachusetts serves over
2,000 individual members who belong to more than 180 member clubs. Each year
the WGAM sponsors 24 amateur tournaments in addition to an active junior golf
program open to any girl residing in Massachusetts. All WGAM junior events
are open to any Massachusetts junior girl regardless of golfing ability or
experience and include the following groups: Junior Class (ages 14-18), Junior-Junior
Class (ages 11-13), Mite Class (age 10 or younger) and Team Matches.

The U.S. Challenge Cup provides junior golfers ages 8-19 the opportunity to
develop their skills through a competitive tournament schedule. In terms of
competitive play, the U.S. Challenge Cup offers a junior mini-tour for novice
to intermediate players, 28 major competitions, opportunities to qualify for
6 of the world's top junior events (the Scott Robertson, the Junior World,
the Monterey Junior Open, the Optimist, the Doral Publix Junior and the Orange
Bowl) and 2 of New England's premiere amateur tournaments (the Hornblower
and the Francis Ouimet Memorial) and a "Shootout Series" in an effort
to provide juniors with opportunities to continue their development.

The 2007 New England PGA Titleist Tournament Players Tour (TPT) is
a tournament series for advanced juniors who wish to compete against aspiring
collegiate players. All 2007 TPT events will be 36 hole stroke play events
over a period of two consecutive days, often at multiple venues-at some of
the best courses in New England. The average event will have a first day field
of 52 players. The second round field will be cut to 32 players. The Titleist
TPT is open to boys and girls 18 years old or younger as of September 1, 2007.
Players may not be currently enrolled in a college or university. The age divisions are: Boys 15-18; Boys 14 & under; Girls 15-18; and Girls 14 & under. All participants must have a USGA handicap index of 15.0 or lower.

The 2007 New England PGA Titleist Junior Tour is entering its ninth season. The mission of the NEPGA Titleist Junior
Tour is to provide juniors with the opportunity to play in professionally
run golf tournaments in a fun environment throughout the spring, summer, and
fall. The NEPGA TJT consists of 50+ events. Participants
must 18 or younger as of September 2007. Age divisions are as follows: Boys 16-17; Boys 14-15; Boys 12-13;
Boys 11 & under (9 holes); Girls 14-17; and Girls 13 & under (9 holes).

The New England PGA will be running the U.S. Kids Golf Boston Local
Tour in the summer of 2007 for the first time for the 12 and under boys and girls
of New England. Players of the Year in each age/gender division will be
invited to the 2008 U.S. Kids Golf World Championship held in Pinehurst,
N.C. Special tees are used for this Tour to allow kids to have fun
while playing shorter courses to learn the necessary skills needed to
improve in tournament golf at a young age.

The mission of the American Junior Golf Association revolves around the overall
growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf
scholarships through competitive junior golf. Competitors are invited to compete
in AJGA events based on a Performance Based Entry process. This process enables
12-18-year-old members to earn their way into AJGA Open tournaments based
on performances at the national, regional and state levels.

All Independent Insurance Agency Junior Classic events are open to any youth
whose 19th birthday does not occur prior to the end of the National IIAJC
tournament and who has not started college. Entry forms can be obtained by
contacting the local IIAJC office.
