The First Tee of Massachusetts - Springfield Chapter
In 2005, the MGA's first satellite facility for The First Tee of Massachusetts program was opened at Fenway Golf Center in Springfield.
Fenway Golf Center is a privately owned golf facility which has an 18-hole executive course with holes ranging from 50-150 yards, a large driving range, a lighted pitch-and-putt and a miniature golf course. The facility is able to service the towns of Springfield, Ludlow, East Longmeadow, Holyoke, Chicopee and Wilbraham.
"Programming is run in the same manner that we run in Norton," says Milton Reach, who serves as chairman of The First Tee of Massachusetts Springfield chapter advisory board. "There are morning and afternoon sessions, one day per week for each group for six weeks, with children receiving golf instruction and lunch. We were able to impact 400 youth in our first year."
Youth agencies from the greater Springfield area -- including the Martin Luther King Community Center and Springfield YMCA -- now have access to The First Tee life experience program.
During its second year of operation in 2006, the facility worked with over 400 children from the greater Springfield area and beyond.
