The First Tee of Massachusetts
In conjunction with the opening of MGA Links at Mamantapett, the MGA expanded its outreach to young children by partnering with The First Tee, a national junior development initiative of the World Golf Foundation.
In addition to learning basic skills of the game, The First Tee participants are introduced to the nine core values inherent in the game: honesty, integrity, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, sportsmanship, judgment, respect and courtesy.
The unique life skills platform of The First Tee helps participants become comfortable introducing themselves to others, meeting new people, learning something new, setting goals, and dealing with conflict. The life skills learned are useful for the participants both on and off the golf course.
Since its inception in 1997, The First Tee has opened over 100 facilities and has introduced the game of golf to over 170,000 young people since 2000. The program's focus is to give young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through golf and character education, life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship. The World Golf Foundation, which is supported by each of the major international golf organizations and professional tours, oversees the World Golf Hall of Fame and other nonprofit components of World Golf Village near St. Augustine, FL.
