With the winter months upon us, the MGA would like to thank all of its competitors and supporters for another exciting and successful golf season.
In preparation for the 2014 season, the MGA staff would like to provide this friendly reminder to all competitors interested in registering for a USGA Championship in 2014.
Beginning next season, the Condition of Competition for all USGA championships and qualifying events that limits players to clubs manufactured with grooves and/or punch marks that conform to all aspects of the Rules of Golf will be implemented.
In other words, your clubs must conform to the conditions that are described in Decision 4-1/1 in the Decisions on the Rules of Golf.
To determine if a club or set of clubs conforms to the new specifications, players should first search the Informational Club Database (Grooves) which is available on the Equipment page by CLICKING HERE.
To avoid any issues next season, the MGA encourages all competitors to review their set of clubs prior to the start of the season.
The penalty for making a stroke with a club in breach of this condition is disqualification. There are also specific penalties for carrying, but not making a stroke with, a club in breach of this condition.
If you have any specific equipment questions, please contact the USGA Open Testing Lab at (908) 781-1073. Please leave a voice mail and a USGA Representative will contact you as soon as possible.
We thank you for your attention to this matter.
