Created to honor the spirit of public golf in 1982, this event is limited to competitors who are bona fide public course players who do not hold membership at a private club. Traditionally, the competition takes place over a two-day period.
Entries are open to amateur golfers who play at an MGA member club, maintain an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 12.0 (as determined by the June 1, 2010 Handicap Revision), and are public course players (i.e., a course which will accept a daily fee, at any time, notwithstanding any certain daily time restraints, is a public course). Amateur golfers holding membership at a semi-private club are eligible. Amateur golfers holding a membership in a private club and a public course are NOT eligible.
