Entries are open to professional golfers and amateur golfers with an active USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4 (as determined by the April 15, 2017 Handicap Revision), or who have completed their handicap certification.

WAGR Counting Event

The World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), which comprises a women's ranking and a men's ranking for elite amateur players, is offered by The R&A and the USGA as a global service to golf. WAGR is updated every Wednesday on and is available to national federations and organizers of amateur and professional events and tours for purposes of offering exemptions, selecting national teams and assembling Orders of Merit. WAGR currently incorporates over 4,000 events with over 10,000 players and endeavors to be the most comprehensive and accurate ranking in golf by effectively comparing players from around the world who may never directly compete against one another.

Registration Alert!!

For First-Time Professionals & Out of State Amateurs: Golfers who did not register for the 2016 Massachusetts Open Championship must create a new profile in the MGA system using their current e-mail address. Amateurs must have an active USGA GHIN Handicap Index through a State or Regional Golf Association that meets the stated eligibility requirements. *If you are currently inactive, you must contact your state or regional golf association before registering.

For Returning Professionals: Professionals who registered for this event in 2016, can log into the system using their e-mail address and password. If you misplaced or forgot your password, please use the "Forgot Password" function or e-mail us at We are happy to assist you.

For Amateurs: All Bay State amateur competitors who have an up-to-date GHIN number can use the My MGA Home program. Bay State residents who do not have an up-to-date GHIN number must create a new profile in the MGA system using their current e-mail address.

2016 Championship Highlights

It was a longer wire-to-wire victory than he expected, but the result was just as sweet for Jason Thresher (West Suffield, CT). Following a three-hole aggregate playoff against Mark Stevens (Pembroke, NH) at Worcester Country Club on Wednesday, Thresher captured his first major professional title - the 107th Massachusetts Open Championship.
