George M. Cohen Senior MGA Player of the Year
In 2003, the MGA announced that the MGA Senior Player of the Year award would
be named in honor of George M. Cohen, a longtime friend and supporter of the
MGA. “Mr. Golf”, as most people knew him, passed away in 2002
at the age of 85 but his legacy is one that will be remembered for years to
come.
The MGA Senior Player of the Year honor is awarded annually to the senior golfer who excels at various events throughout the season. Performance in MGA, NEGA, USGA and various Regional events is considered. Ed Fletcher of Quashnet Valley Country Club had a stranglehold on this award since its inception in 1998 until the 2003 season when Jim Ruschioni took over as reigning MGA Senior Player of the Year.
