Headline: Seven Competitors Advance at Day 3 of Massachusetts Amateur Qualifying

Whitinsville, MA – Four players were able to post a score of 1-over par 72 on Thursday at Whitinsville Golf Club.

As a result of their performance, those players – along with the three other qualifiers – have earned the right to take their game to the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, which will be held on July 14-18 at The Kittansett Club in Marion.

A third day of qualifying was held today at Whitinsville Golf Club. Capturing a share of the top spot at that site were Matt Dunn (Wachusett CC), Tim Tunstall (Longmeadow CC), Ryan Riley (Norton CC) and Ricky Stimets (Oyster Harbors Club).

Also qualifying today were Jim Hosey (The Orchards GC), Thomas Berg (Wachusett CC) and Taylor Fontaine (Pleasant Valley CC). All three of those players posted scores of 2-over par 72. A total of seven players out of a field of 41 advanced to Championship Proper.

Here is a schedule of qualifying that will be held next week:

June 10: Hyannis GC (Hyannis), Elmcrest CC (East Longmeadow)
June 11: LeBaron Hills CC (Lakeville); Indian Ridge CC (Andover)
June 12: Ellinwood CC (Athol); Framingham CC (Framingham); Presidents GC (Quincy)

About the Massachusetts Amateur Championship
The oldest and most venerated event conducted by the MGA, the state amateur annually crowns the best amateur player in the state. Arthur G. Lockwood was the inaugural champion in 1903 and now shares his name on the championship trophy with such golf legends as Francis Ouimet, Jesse Guilford, Frederick Wright, Ted Bishop, Kevin Johnson and James Driscoll.

Entries are open to amateur golfers who hold membership in an MGA member club and have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4 (as determined by the April 30, 2008 Handicap Revision), or who have completed their handicap certification as defined on the Entry Form.
