News Release

Sarah Garlick
For Immediate Release: January 18, 2008
Norton, MA – It seems as if with every passing year, The First Tee of Massachusetts reaches another milestone.
Just four years after officially launching here in the Bay State, The First Tee of Massachusetts is proud to announce that one of its participants – Sarah Garlick – was named to the Class of 2008 The First Tee Scholars.
This prestigious award is given annually to a select group of high school seniors from across the country who have demonstrated achievement in the areas of academics, leadership skills, character development, and chapter and community involvement. The First Tee Scholars Program provides qualified participants of The First Tee a gateway to a successful future through higher education.
Sarah, a Springfield native who has been a participant of The First Tee of Massachusetts for the past three years, is the first-ever Bay-State native to earn this honor. During her time in the Bay State based program, Sarah has embraced the teachings of The First Tee curriculum and has helped to make a difference in the lives on many younger participants. In addition to her time in this program, Sarah has also been an active participant in the MGA's ForeKids Golf Program each winter at Springfield College.
Hailing from Somers, Connecticut, Sarah has been an active member of several community organizations, including Big Brothers-Big Sisters and the Special Olympics Golf Program. Sarah's work with these organizations has consisted of assisting with golf clinics for disabled students and organizing several events for youth mentoring services.
Sarah's accomplishments extend to the classroom where she has been a member for the National Honor Society for the last two years.
The First Tee of Massachusetts is extremely proud to have Sarah be its first recognized participant in the Scholars Program. Not only is this a testament to the hard work and dedication of Sarah to her academics and community work, but it also shows the positive impact The First Tee can have on young children.
