News Release

Ryan Magee
For Immediate Release: January 3, 2008
Norton, MA – The start of the 2008 golf season may still be months away, but the MGA today took a huge step in advancing its championship program by announcing the hiring of Ryan Magee as director of rules and competition.
Ryan, a Massachusetts native who has been working at the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) for the past four years, will be taking over for Owen O'Malley, who departed the MGA earlier this fall after seven seasons with the organization.
"Ryan Magee possesses an extensive background in tournament administration," said Joseph Sprague, executive director of the MGA. "Having worked at two other state golf associations over the course of his career, he will bring an added dimension to his new position with the MGA. The fact that he is also a Massachusetts native is a bonus."
The NCGA manages one of the most aggressive tournament schedules in the country which includes 355 tournament days and a departmental budget of $1.5 million. As assistant director of rules and competitions, Magee was personally responsible for 30-35 tournaments during a season that spanned from March to October. His duties included pre-tournament onsite meetings with the head professionals and superintendents, organization of volunteers, course marking and on-site administration of the championships.
In addition to his tournament responsibilities, Magee worked closely with the director of education preparing and teaching five in-class workshops on the Rules of Golf. He also served as assistant secretary/treasurer for both the Senior Golf Association of Northern California and the California Seniors' Golf Association and was responsible for assisting with a membership base of more than 800 golfers.
Prior to his work at the NCGA, Magee served for one year as a USGA Boatwright Intern with the Texas Golf Association.
A native of Massachusetts, Magee earned a bachelor of science in business management degree from Salem State College in 2000. Magee's first official day with the MGA will be on Thursday, January 3 when he will be attending the MGA's Annual Salute to Champions Dinner at Wellesley Country Club.
