Norton, MA – On a near perfect October afternoon, a field of 130 golfers representing all ages and skill levels took to the TPC of Boston golf course to compete in the 1st Annual MGA Junior Golf Fund Golf Tournament.

All proceeds from the event, which was held on Monday, went directly to the MGA Junior Golf Fund, which supports The First Tee of Massachusetts and ForeKids Golf Program.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship support of Wal-Mart, players enjoyed an 18-hole round on the course famous for hosting such golfing greats as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson during the Deutsche Bank Championship. But on this day, thoughts focused on the underserved youth in the Bay State who benefit from the programs.

"We were excited to enjoy such a successful and fun inaugural MGA Junior Golf Fund Golf Tournament," said Joe McCabe, executive director of The First Tee of Massachusetts. "The cross section of players who took part in the event speaks volumes about the generosity of the local community. They understand that golf has the ability to teach young children about important life values that they can carry on through their entire lives."

One of the highlights of the event was the presence of 12 youngsters who this past summer participated in The First Tee of Massachusetts program at nearby MGA Links at Mamantapett, an 18-hole, par 3 facility that serves as MGA junior golf headquarters. Two days earlier, those 12 juniors took part in a golf marathon to earn money for the MGA Junior Golf Fund and raised more than $1,200 for the cause. In total, the players completed a remarkable 341 holes of golf in one afternoon!

"The willingness of the youngsters to participate in the marathon was very rewarding," said Pete Walsh, head golf professional at MGA Links at Mamantapett whose course welcomed 600 junior members during the 2007 season. "We have seen these children grow so much over the course of the year. It was their way of giving back and showing their appreciation for the program and all that it does for them both on and off the course."

Another important sponsor of the event was the host site of TPC of Boston. While the TPC Network has always enjoyed a strong relationship with The First Tee national office, the Norton course welcomed the 1st Annual MGA Junior Golf Fund Golf Tournament with open arms. The course generously donated cart and greens fees and provided a discount on all food and beverages.

The Annual MGA Junior Golf Fund Golf Tournament will make a return to TPC of Boston in October 2008. In addition, The First Tee of Massachusetts will look to establish similar regional fundraising events near its current satellite facilities in Springfield, Lynnfield and on Cape Cod.
