Headline: Doug Crawford Saves His Best for Last to Win 2007 Massachusetts Senior Championship

East Falmouth , MA – Doug Crawford (Stow Acres CC) came through when it most counted. With his back against the wall, Crawford fired a score of 1-under par 35 on the back nine this afternoon to propel him to a one-stroke victory at the 2007 Massachusetts Senior Championship title, which was held this week at The Golf Club of Cape Cod in East Falmouth.

He finished with a final score of 4-over par 148 to edge William Boucher(Framingham CC) by one stroke.

Crawford, who entered the final round tied for the lead, fell briefly behind following a 3-over par 39 front nine. Showing true grit and determination, Crawford battled the challenging Cape Cod layout during the late afternoon hours to pull out his first career MGA Championship title.

Crawford's front nine was not what he had hoped for when he started out this afternoon. Following two bogeys and one birdie, Crawford suffered a double bogey on the 7th hole to make the turn at 3-over par 39. Determined as ever, Crawford went on to birdie three of his next six holes. His scorecard was so impressive that it featured four 3's in a row from holes 12 through 15! Despite registering bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes, Crawford's birdie stretch proved to be enough to hold off a surging Boucher.

Moving up the leaderboard on Tuesday following a 1-over par 73 performance was Boucher. His day-low score earned him sole possession of second place with a final score of 5-over par 149. Perhaps the most amazing part of his impressive day-two score was the path to the end. Boucher engaged in a roller-coaster round that included six birdies, two bogeys, one double bogey and one triple bogey. After making the turn at 2-over par 38, Boucher went on a pivotal birdie run as he made birdie on the 12th, 15th and 16th holes. His hopes for an under-par round came to an abrupt end, however, as he made a heartbreaking triple bogey on the 17th hole. Seemingly unfazed by the sudden turn of events, Boucher finished off his day with a birdie on the 18th hole to cap off his 1-over par 73 round and capture second place overall.

Co-first round leader Paul Murphy (Charles River CC) could not keep pace with Crawford on the final day as his 5-over par 77 dropped him to third place with a final score of 7-over par 151. Murphy is always a tough competitor as he was the 2006 New England Senior Champion. Carter Fasick (Indian Meadows GC), playing in his first Massachusetts Senior Championship, was two back of Murphy to claim fourth place while James Drohen (Crystal Springs GC), the 2003 winner of this event, finished in fifth place with a score of 10-over par 154.

Jim Holbrook (Ferncroft CC) finished tied for ninth-place overall, but his 12-over par 156 was good enough to capture the Super Senior Division title. The Super Senior Division includes all competitors 65 years and older.
