Headline: Mark Plummer Holds Two-Shot Lead at 2007 New England Senior Championship

York, ME – Mark Plummer (Augusta CC - ME) is enjoying the site of this year's New England Senior Championship. The Manchester (ME) resident fired a day-low score of 2-under par 68 to take a two-shot lead at York Golf & Tennis Club in York, Maine.

Plummer currently leads Cliff Calvao (Green Hill GC - MA) and Alan Bouchard (Woodlands Club - ME) by two strokes and Paul Nunez, Jr. (Longmeadow CC - MA) and Ronald Murray (Val Halla GC - ME) by three shots.

Today's round is just another feather in Plummer's cap as he is coming off an impressive six-shot victory at the Maine Senior Amateur Championship last week. With his victory in that event, the 55-year-old became only the third player in Maine history to win the Maine Junior, Amateur and the Senior Championships. After claiming the Junior Championship in 1969, Plummer went on to win 13 State Amateur titles.

On Wednesday morning, it didn't appear that Plummer was on his way to a remarkable round as he made a double bogey on the 225-yard, par 3 1st hole. Following two straight pars, however, Plummer found his rhythm and made birdie on four of the next six holes to make the turn at 2-under par 33. A birdie on the 418-yard, par 4 11th hole pushed him to 3-under par but a bogey on the 360-yard, par 4 15th hole brought him back to 2-under par for the day.

Two back of Plummer is Calvao with a score of even par 70. Calvao, who began his round on the 10 th hole, had an up-and-down round that included four bogeys, two birdies and an eagle! That eagle came just in time as Calvao found himself 2-over par on the day as he stepped onto the teeing ground of his 17th hole. He then proceeded to make a 3 on the 456-yard, par 5 8th hole to bring him back to even for the round. Comparatively, Bouchard had a relatively calm round with birdies on the 8th and 10th holes and bogeys on the 11th and 15th holes.

Nunez, a two-time winner of the Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship, posted two bogeys and one birdie through his first five holes and then made 13 straight pars. Murray finished with five bogeys, two birdies and a remarkable eagle on the 369-yard, par 4 4th hole.

Defending champion Paul Murphy (Charles River CC - MA) and 2005 champion Gene Ryzewicz (Connecticut GC - CT) are still in the hunt after posting 4-over par 74s today. Ryzewicz's exciting round featured seven bogeys and three birdies. Another notable competitor in this year’s field is Alistair Catto (The Orchards GC – MA), who earlier this month advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. Catto was the top finisher among all New England players in that event. He also – earlier this year – finished tied for fourth at the New England Senior Open. On this day, Catto fired a score of 8-over par 78.

In the Super Senior Division – which includes all competitors 65 years and older – Fred Kask (Weathersfield CC - CT) and Sam Lussier (Amherst GC - MA) lead the way with scores of 5-over par 75. Those golfers stand one ahead of Del Kinney (Wyantenuck CC - MA) and Stan McFarland (Manchester CC - CT).
