Headline: Field Now Set for Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship Following Qualifying

Norton, MA – A total of 47 golfers competed today at Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Qualifying that was held at Crestview Country Club (Agawam), Dennis Pines Golf Course (South Dennis) and Duxbury Yacht Club (Duxbury). As a result of their performance, they have earned the right to compete at Championship Proper, which will be held on September 24-26 at Cohasset Golf Club.

Fifty four golfers advanced yesterday during the first day of qualifying. The qualifiers from both days will join the 16 exempt players who will compete in Cohasset later this month.

Here are highlights from today's three sites:

Crestview Country Club
In the western part of the state, Andy Congdon (Wyantenuck CC) produced a stellar round of 3-under par 69 to lead a field of 15 qualifiers. Congdon, a Great Barrington resident, made the turn at 1-under par 35 and saved his best for last as he capped off his round with a back-nine score of 2-under par 34. Matthew Ortega (Berkshire Hills CC) finished in second with a score of 1-over par 73. Also qualifying at that site were Todd Ezold (Hickory Ridge CC), who advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Massachusetts Amateur Championship, and Robert Linn (Berkshire Hills CC), winner of the 2007 Worcester County Amateur.

Dennis Pines Golf Course
Jason Williams (Acushnet River Valley GC) and Jim Forsgard (South Shore CC) both posted scores of 4-over par 76 to finish as co medalists in South Dennis. A total of 10 competitors advanced at Dennis Pines Golf Course on Cape Cod.

Duxbury Yacht Club
Jeff Page (Wellesley CC) was the only player to shoot under par in Duxbury as he led all qualifiers by four shots! Page fired a 2-under par 34 on the front nine and then followed that up with a 1-under par 35 on the back nine. Finishing in a tie for second place were Dave Walde(Pinehills GC) and Bill Murphy (Franklin CC) with scores of 1-over par 73.
