Headline: William & Richard Tribou Capture 2007 Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship

Sharon, MA – The "once a bridesmaid, never a bride" saying no longer fits the senior team of Robert W. Tribou (Pocasset GC) and William R. Tribou (Poquoy Brook GC).

One year after finishing second at the Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship, the brother duo posted an impressive final round score of 4-under par 68 today, which proved good enough to earn them a two-shot victory over the field.

The Tribous, who entered the final round one shot back of first-round leaders Jim Ruschioni (Indian Meadows GC) and Paul Nunez, Jr. (Longmeadow CC), saved their best golf for last as they stormed up the leaderboard on a hot, muggy final day at Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon to finish at 7-under par 137.

Despite posting a 2-under par 34 on the front nine, the Tribous found themselves still trailing the Ruschioni and Nunez team by one stroke. While Ruschioni and Nunez faltered down the stretch – they were 1-over par 37 on the back nine – the Tribous persevered and mirrored that impressive 2-under score on the back nine to cruise to victory.

Finishing in a three-way tie for second place with scores of 5-under par 139 were Ruschioni and Nunez, Gary Coughlin (Plymouth CC) and Leigh Mackay (Southers Marsh GC) and Richard Garnett (Acushnet River Valley GC) and Thomas Eldredge (The Ridge Club).

Ruschioni and Nunez, winners of this event in 2003 and 2004, finished the day with a score of 1-under par 71. But while Ruschioni and Nunez could not find magic on the final day, Coughlin and Mackay posted their best score of the tournament, a 5-under par 67, which catapulted them into a tie for the second spot. The duo posted five birdies – on the 1st, 2nd, 12th, 15th and 17th holes – and 13 pars on the day. Garnett and Eldredge were also solid, scoring a 2-under par 70 this afternoon. This marks the first year that both the Coughlin and Mackay and Garnett and Eldredge teams were eligible to compete in this event.

One back with scores of 4-under par 140 were three teams: Bill Barry Jr. (Elmcrest CC) and Alistair Catto (The Orchards GC), Donald Anderson (The Kittansett Club) and Claude Hoopes (The Kittansett Club) and Ray Richard (Thorny Lea GC) and Rick Cunha (Plymouth CC). Barry and Catto and Anderson and Hoopes both shot 2-under par 70 today, while Richard and Cunha posted a strong finishing round of 3-under par 69.

Two-time and defending champions Tom Bergeron (Crumpin-Fox Club) and Jack Varner (CC of Greenfield) couldn't make it a three-peat as they finished at 2-under par 142 and in a tie for 10th place overall. Following a first-round score of 2-under par 70, the unstoppable duo from the past two years registered an even par 72 today.
