Headline: 31 Golfers Qualify at Day 2 of 2007 Massachusetts Public Links Qualifying
Norton, MA – Another 31 golfers battled through 18 holes of qualifying and earned themselves a spot in the 2007 Massachusetts Public Links Championship. Qualifying for this MGA Championship event was held at two sites today – Blissful Meadows Golf Course in Uxbridge and Beverly Golf & Tennis Club in Beverly.
Those 31 players will next compete in Championship Proper, scheduled for August 14-15 at New England Country Club in Bellingham.
In Uxbridge, more than 90 golfers battled for the 18 qualifying spots available at Blissful Meadows Golf Course. Leading the way with a score of 1-under par 71 was LJ Toches (Highfields G&CC). Toches played 2-under par golf on the front nine and held on with a back-nine score of 1-over par 37 to earn medalist honors. One back of Toches with an even par 72 was Carter Fasick (Indian Meadows CC), the four-time Massachusetts Four-Ball Champion who is enjoying a strong summer of golf. Just a few weeks ago, Fasick advanced to the Round of 16 at the Massachusetts Amateur Championship.
Not only did David Holmes (Blackstone National GC) capture a share of third place overall with a 1-over par 73, he also delivered the shot of the day. Holmes, who resides in Sutton, scored a hole in one on the 186-yard, par 3 15 th hole. He used a 5 iron on that shot. Another note of interest is that a total of four players out of Cyprian Keyes Golf Club advanced at Blissful Meadows Golf Course. Those players were James Broderick (Cyprian Keyes GC), Dan Mastrototaro (Cyprian Keyes GC), David Falcucci (Cyprian Keyes GC)and David Turnblom (Cyprian Keyes GC). That represents the highest total of any club.
On the North Shore, Brendan Livingston (Red Tail GC) shot a 2-under par 33 front nine to lead him to medalist honors at the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club. Livingston struggled on the back nine but held on for the overall low score of 1-over par 71. Bryan Vitale (Hickory Hill GC) had the opposite but equally effective fortune as he recovered from a 3-over par 38 on the front nine with a 1-under par 34. He finished in sole possession of second place. Thirteen golfers advanced at that site.
One more day of qualifying will be held this week:
