Headline: 2007 Massachusetts Amateur Championship Field Set Following Day 6 of Qualifying
Gloucester, MA – On an unusually chilly day, more than 60 golfers journeyed to Bass Rocks Golf Club in Gloucester to compete in the final day of Massachusetts Amateur qualifying. In the end, a total of 12 competitors advanced and claimed the final coveted spots in the championship field.
Finishing as medalist with a score of 4-over par 73 was Tom Gillis (Beverly G&TC). Gillis made the turn at even par 35 and held on down the stretch by firing a 4-over par 38. Gillis, a reinstated amateur who serves as golf chairman for the Beverly Chamber of Commerce, finished one stroke ahead of Kevin Daly (Thomson CC) and Jon Lawler (Bass Rocks GC).
Another notable qualifier from today’s round was Darren Bolton (Larry Gannon Municipal GC), a Columbia University graduate who advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2005 Massachusetts Amateur Championship.
The 99th playing of the Massachusetts Amateur Championship will take place next month on July 9-13 at Concord Country Club.
