Headline: 24 Amateur Golfers Advance at Day 5 of Massachusetts Amateur Qualifying

Norton, MA – A total of 24 talented amateur golfers have earned themselves a berth into next month's Massachusetts Amateur Championship as a result of their performance at today's qualifying, which was held at The Milton-Hoosic Club in Canton and Pine Brook Country Club in Weston.

These players will now set their sights on the Championship Proper scheduled for July 9-13 at Concord Country Club.

At the day's largest site in Weston, three players emerged from the field by firing scores of even par 70. Doug Crawford (Stow Acres CC), Dan Ladd (Weston GC) and Jeffrey Stewart (Marshfield CC) posted that medalist score to lead the other 14 qualifiers at Pine Brook Country Club.

Just two years ago, Stewart advanced to the Round of 32 of the Massachusetts Amateur Championship before falling to eventual semifinalist Bill Drohen in a tightly-contested first-round match. Crawford, a veteran competitor, turned heads one year ago when he captured the Eddie Lowery seniors title at the Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament. He was also medalist at 2006 U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifying.

In Canton, Scott Dabney (Dedham C&PC) was the only player to post a sub-par round as he registered an impressive score of 2-under par 66. Dabney fired identical splits of 33 on the front and back nine en route to his medalist finish. Two shots back of Dabney with an even par 68 was Kevin Foley (Furnace Brook GC).

Also qualifying at that site was Jeff Mucciarone (Walpole CC) who – much like Stewart – made it to the Round of 32 at the Massachusetts Amateur Championship in 2006.

The final two days of qualifying that will determine the championship field will be held on the following days:

June 12: Green Hill Municipal GC (Worcester)
June 14: Bass Rocks GC (Gloucester)
