Headline: 44 Players Advance to Massachusetts Open Championship Following Local Qualifying

Norton, MA – On a busy day of local qualifying, a total of 44 players played well enough to earn a spot at the 2007 Massachusetts Open Championship, a premier event sponsored by the (MGA that is open to New England’s best amateur and professional players.

This year's Massachusetts Open Championship will be held on June 18-20 at Kernwood Country Club.

Local qualifying was held at Black Rock Country Club in Hingham and Foxborough Country Club in Foxborough. Leading the way in Hingham was Greg Yeomans (Bay Club at Mattapoisett), head golf professional at Bay Club at Mattapoisett. Prior to his appointment at the South Shore club, Yeomans, who fired a medalist score of 4-under par 67 today, was a three-year captain of the golf team at the University of Connecticut and was the New England Player of the Year in 1994.

Just one back of Yeomans was Dan Walters (Lancaster, PA), a traveling professional from Pennsylvania. Three local amateurs – George Zolotas (Ferncroft CC), Kyle Pelletier (Allendale CC) and Donnie Troy (CC of Pittsfield) – posted scores of 2-under par 69 to finish in a tie for third place. A total of 13 amateurs advanced from that site.

Meanwhile in Foxborough, it was Matt Adams (Granite Links GC), who finished as the only player to post a sub-par round. The assistant golf professional at Granite Links Golf Club registered an impressive 1-under par 71 this afternoon to best Mark DiGiacomo (Lebanon, PA) and former local amateur standout turned professional Matthew Donovan (Pittsfield, MA) by one stroke.

Other notable qualifiers from that site include former MGA Player of the Year Steven Tasho (Thorny Lea GC) and New York Islanders goaltender Mike Dunham (Quail Ridge CC).
