Headline: Four Professional Golfers Finish As Co-Medalists at Day 3 of State Open Qualifying
Dalton, MA – Four players fired medalist scores of 1-under par 70 this afternoon at Wahconah Country Club during Massachusetts Open Qualifying.
As a result of their performance, those four players – along with the other eight qualifiers – have earned the right to compete at Championship Proper, which will be held on June 18-20 at Kernwood Country Club.
Finishing atop the leaderboard were four professionals who hail from four different states: Justin Mackinnon (Longmeadow CC), Frank Graziosa (New City, NY), Greg Pieczynski (Kingston, PA) and Edward Kingston (Hamden, CT).
Also qualifying today was former amateur standout from Holyoke Country Club, Tele Wightman (Chicopee, MA). Wightman, who competed on the New England Pro Golf Tour in 2006, currently serves as an assistant golf professional at Holyoke Country Club.
In addition to the handful of professional players, four local amateurs qualified this afternoon in Dalton. Leading the charge with a score of even par 71 was John Vaccaro (Albany, NY). He was joined by Alistair Catto (The Orchards GC), Pete Alminas (Franconia GC) and Paul Buttafuoco (Elcrest CC).
The Massachusetts Open represents the only event on the MGA Championship schedule that is open to both amateur and professional golfers. Competitors for this year’s event must have an up-to-date MGA/USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4.
