Headline: 27th Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship Set for May 7-9 at Mount Pleasant CC & Shaker Hills GC
Norton, MA – Starting times, pairings and course assignments for the first and second rounds of the 2007 Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship are now available online.
The 27th playing of the Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship will be conducted at Mount Pleasant Country Club (Boylston) and Shaker Hills Golf Club (Harvard) on May 7-8. A total of 200 two-person teams will be competing for the title this year.
All competitors will compete in 36 holes of Four-Ball Stroke Play. While co-defending champions John Mazzocca (Wrentham, MA) and Donald Macintyre (North Attleboro, MA) will return to defend the title the brother duo of Steven Alminas (Elmcrest CC) and Peter Alminas (Elmcrest CC) will be noticeably absent from this year's field. Older brother Steven has graduated from college and will be pursuing a professional golf career this summer. The Alminas brothers first captured the Massachusetts Four-Ball title back in 2005 and played well enough in last year's weather-shortened event to capture a share of the title with Mazzocca and Macintyre.
This year's event will feature a new location as it moves to Central Massachusetts for the first time since 2004. The players will have an opportunity to compete at Mount Pleasant Country Club, a championship golf course set on 280 acres that served as the host of the 2001 Massachusetts Open Championship, and Shaker Hills Golf Club, a premier public course that continually rates in Golf Digest's "Top Places to Play" list as a 4-star golf club. The course also annually hosts the PGA Champions Tour "Bank of America Championship" qualifier each year.
The Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship debuted in 1981 and has become one of the most popular events on the MGA Championship schedule. The event is open to two-person teams of amateur golfers who hold membership in an MGA member club and have an up-to-date combined MGA/USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 6.0.
