Headline: Team Massachusetts Looks to 3-Peat at 73rd Tri-State Team Matches Set for October 12-13

Norton, MA – The 10-man team featuring some of the best amateur golfers in the Bay State will take to the course this week at The International in Bolton to compete in the 73rd Tri-State Team Matches.

Those 10 Massachusetts players will compete against their counterparts from Rhode Island and Connecticut as part of this prestigious event, which debuted in 1907, when the team from Massachusetts was victorious at the Agawam Hunt Club in Providence, RI .

Competing for Team Massachusetts this year will be Frank Vana , Jr. (Marlborough CC), John Hadges (Thorny Lea GC), Andy Drohen (St. Anne CC), Brian H iggins (Franklin CC), Steve Tasho (Thorny Lea GC), Phil Miceli (Sagamore Springs GC), Kevin Quinn (Charles River CC) and Burgess Houston (Segregansett CC). Representing the senior division for Team Massachusetts will be the 2006 New England Senior Champion, Paul Murphy (Charles River CC), and the 2006 Massachusetts Senior Champion and three-time George M. Cohen MGA Senior Player of the Year, Jim Ruschioni (Indian Meadows GC).

Team Massachusetts will be looking to capture its third straight Tri-State Matches title this week at The International. In the history of the event, Team Connecticut has claimed a total of 39 titles, while Massachusetts has gained ground over the past the years but still trails with 23 titles. Rhode Island stands in last place with 12.

The 10 competitors from each state will take part in foursomes matches on Thursday afternoon with play scheduled to begin on The Oaks Course at 1:00 p.m. Following Thursday's foursomes matches, the players will return to Bolton on Friday to compete in a second round of singles play, scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.
