Headline: Hughes, Donnellan Share Medalist Honors at Day 4 of Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Qualifying
North Quincy, MA – Jonathan Hughes (Eastward Ho! CC) and Mark Donnellan (Winchester CC) fired medalist scores of 2-under par 68 this afternoon at Presidents Golf Course to lead a field of more than 50 amateur golfers at Day 4 of Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship qualifying.
As a result of their performance today, Hughes, Donnellan and the other 12 qualifiers have earned the right to compete at Championship Proper, which will take place on September 18-20 at Weston Golf Club.
Hughes, who plays his golf on Cape Cod , was consistent on both nines as he made the turn at 1-under par 33 and then finished off his back nine at a 1-under par 35 clip. Donnellan, meanwhile, was on fire on the front nine as he posted a day-low score of 3-under par 31. He held on during the latter stages of his round by playing 1-over par 37 golf through his final nine holes.
Bill Jenks (Brae Burn CC) was one stroke back of Hughes and Donnellan and the only other player to post a sub-par round on the day. Jenks finished at 1-under par 69. The lone Presidents Golf Course member to qualify today was Gerry Squires (Presidents GC), who carded an even par 70
The 14 qualifiers from Presidents Golf Course will now join the 50 players who qualified over the past week at Berkshire Hills Country Club, LeBaron Hills Country Club and Renaissance Golf Club at Championship Proper.
A fifth and final day of Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifying will be held tomorrow at two sites: Cape Cod National Golf Club (Brewster) and Quail Ridge Country Club (Acton).
