Headline: Champoux & Whitcomb of Dennis Pines GC Win MGA President-Professional Tournament
Sterling, MA – The team of Russ Champoux (Dennis Pines GC) and Steven Whitcomb (Dennis Pines GC) drove from Dennis to Sterling this morning and proved that it was well worth the120-mile trek. The golf professional and club president duo paired up to capture the gross division title at the 2006 President-Professional Tournament, which was held at Sterling National Country Club.
Despite the rainy conditions and an always challenging Sterling National Country Club layout, Champoux and Whitcomb fired an even par 71. Earlier this year, Champoux and Whitcomb opened the doors of Dennis Pines Golf Course and Dennis Highlands Golf Course to host the 2006 Massachusetts Four-Ball Championship.
Finishing one stroke back in second place were Webb Heintzelman (Thomson CC) and Frank Bisognano (Thomson CC). Four teams finished in a tie for third place with scores of 2-over par 73.
Capturing the net division title with a score of 5-under-par 66 and were Heintzelman andBisognano. Three shots back in second place were Tim Bishop (Petersham CC) and Ross Yanco (Petersham CC) and Glendon Sutton (MGA Links at Mamantapett) and Richard Osborn (MGA Links at Mamantapett ). Sutton and Osborn represented MGA Links at Mamantapett , the 18-hole, par 3 Norton course that serves as headquarters to The First Tee of Massachusetts and the MGA ForeKids Golf Program.
The MGA President-Professional Tournament, which brings together MGA Member Club presidents and golf professionals, is an annual event sponsored by the Massachusetts Golf Association. This invitational event features a selected drive, alternate shot format and has proven to be one of the most successful and enjoyable events for all involved.
