Headline: Team Massachusetts Finishes Second at 2006 New England Junior Championship
Cohasset, MA – Rain storms in the southern portion of the state caused the
cancellation
of the second day of play at the 2006 New England Junior Championship, which was being held this week at Cohasset Golf Club in Cohasset, Massachusetts.
As a result of the cancellation of the final 18 holes, the standings following the first day will stand.
Finishing in first place was the team from Connecticut. Leading the way for that squad was Cory Paladino (Timberlin GC), who was medalist of the event with scores of 2-over par 71 and even par 69. Team Connecticut finished with a two-day total of 715 points.
Turning in a second-place performance with a score of 737 was the seven-person team from Massachusetts. The top scorer from the Bay State was Taylor Fontaine (Pleasant Valley CC), who fired a pair of 4-over par 73s for a two-day total of 8-over par 146. Next in line for Team Massachusetts were Antonio Grillo (Farm Neck GC) and Davis Mullany (Wyantenuck CC), who posted identical two-day totals of 9-over par 147. Grillo, who is coming off his 2006 Massachusetts Junior Championship victory, fired a 4-over par 73 and 5-over par 74 on Monday. Mullany posted identical scores.
Also competing for Team Massachusetts this year were John Kelly, Jr. (Twin Hills CC), Richard Werenski (The Orchards GC), Colin Brennan (Indian Ridge CC) and Brandon Parker (Pleasant Valley CC).

The New England Junior Championship, an annual event sponsored by the New England Golf Association (NEGA), pits the top seven golfers, aged 17 or younger, from each of the six New England states against each other in a two-day event. The competitors competed in two rounds of 18-hole stroke play on Monday before play was cancelled on Tuesday.
The top five of seven scores count for each of the three rounds played.
