Headline: Team Massachusetts Stands in Second Place Following Day 1 of New England Junior

Cohasset, MA – The seven-person team from Massachusetts stands in second place behind the team from Connecticut following the first day of play at the 2006 New England Junior Championship, which is being held this week at Cohasset Golf Club in Cohasset, Massachusetts.

All six New England teams will return to Cohasset on Tuesday to compete in a third and final round of 18-hole stroke play.

Team standings following the first day of play are as follows:

1) Connecticut -- 715
2) Massachusetts -- 737
3) New Hampshire -- 741
4) Vermont -- 753
5) Maine -- 762
6) Rhode Island -- 775

The New England Junior Championship is an annual event sponsored by the New England Golf Association (NEGA) pits the top seven golfers, aged 17 or younger, from each of the six New England states against each other in this two-day event. The competitors competed in two rounds of 18-hole stroke play on Monday.

A final 18-hole round of stroke play will be conducted on Tuesday morning to determine the 2006 team champion. The top five of seven scores count for each of the three rounds played.
