Headline: Trevor Murphy Claims Medalist Honors at U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying at Atkinson Country Club
Norton, MA – Just one week after finishing fourth at the New England Amateur Championship, Trevor Murphy (St. Johnsbury, VT) captured medalist honors at U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying, which was held at Atkinson Country Club in Atkinson, New Hampshire. Murphy was strong from the start... posting a 3-under par 69 during the morning round and then following that up with a 4-under par 68 in the afternoon.
Also qualifying at that site were Jeffrey Castle (Towson, MD) and 2006 Maine Amateur Champion, Shawn Warren (Windham, ME).
About the Championship:
The U.S. Amateur, the oldest USGA championship, was first played in 1895 at Newport Golf Club in Rhode Island. The event, which has no age restriction, is open to those with a Handicap Index of 2.4 or lower. It is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
