Headline: Five Golfers at U.S. Senior Open Qualifying Held at Bay Club at Mattapoisett
Mattapoisett, MA – Five golfers – including one local amateur – have earned the right to compete at the U.S. Senior Open Championship, which will be held on July 6-9 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, as a result of their performance at today’s qualifying round at Bay Club at Mattapoisett.
Capturing a share of medalist honors today with scores of 3-under par 68 were Andy Bean (Lakeland, FL), local amateur RickMarcos (Lakeville, MA) and Scott Spence (Bristol, RI). Bean, who won 11 titles over the course of his PGA Tour career, made the turn at 1-over par 36 before turning on the jets and finishing with a day-low back nine score of 4-under par 32. Marcos, the sole amateur to advance, has been enjoying recent success as last month he earned a berth into the Massachusetts Open Championship following local qualifying at Cranberry Valley Golf Course.
Also qualifying today were Champions Tour players Scott Masingill (Payette, ID) and KirkHanefeld (Acton, MA). Both players registered scores of 2-under par 69. Hanefeld, who served as the director of golf at The International before qualifying for this year's Champions Tour, is coming off a sixth place finish at the Allianz Championship held in Iowa earlier this month.
