Headline: Kyle Tibbetts Shoots 2-under par 70 at Day 1 of Massachusetts Amateur Qualifying

Stow, MA – Kyle Tibbetts (Framingham CC) was the only person to break par this afternoon at Stow Acres Country Club, and in the end, he captured medalist honors during the first day of Massachusetts Amateur qualifying.

Tibbetts was one of 90 players who made their way to Stow today in hopes of advancing to the 98th playing of the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, which will be held on July 10-14 at Worcester Country Club.

Tibbetts was consistent all day long as he fired identical splits of 1-under par 35 on the front and back nines. Finishing two strokes back of Tibbetts with a score of even par 72 were four competitors: Chad Bouchard (Sterling CC), Ken Gys (Mount Pleasant GC), Michael West (Stow Acres CC) and Jon Fasick (New England CC).

Also qualifying today was Aaron Siekierski (Webster-Dudley GC), the 2003 Massachusetts Junior Champion who during the school year is a standout golfer at the University of Connecticut. Siekierski was one of five golfers to register a score of 2-over par 74.

A total of 15 competitors advanced to the Massachusetts Amateur Championship this afternoon following today’s qualifying round.

Massachusetts Amateur Qualifying - Day 1 Notes:
• Additional qualifying rounds will be held at the following sites: June 6 – Falmouth CC; June 7 –Foxborough CC; Marshfield CC; and Tedesco CC; June 8 – Haverhill CC; June 14 – CC of Halifax ; Wollaston GC; June 15 – Hickory Ridge CC.
• A total of 144 competitors – including 20 exempt players – will compete at Championship Proper, scheduled for July 10-14 at Worcester Country Club.
• More than 770 applications were received for this year's Massachusetts Amateur Championship, which is the most-subscribed event on the MGA Championship schedule.
• Entries for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship are open to amateur golfers who hold membership in an MGA member club and have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap not exceeding 4.4 (as determined by the May 12, 2006 Handicap Revision).
