Headline: Daniel Falcucci Leads All; Shoots 2-under par 70 at Day 2 of State Open Qualifying

Lakeville, MA – A total of 22 players earned a berth into the 2006 Massachusetts Open Championship this afternoon following Day 2 of qualifying which was held at Poquoy Brook Golf Club in Lakeville.

Leading the charge with a day-low score of 2-under par 70 was Daniel Falcucci (Cyprian Keyes GC). Falcucci, whose twin brother David Falcucci (Cyprian Keyes GC) also qualified today, made the turn at 2-under par 34 and finished off his round with an even par 36 on the back nine to earn medalist honors.

The Falcucci brothers were two of six amateur competitors to advance today. Other notable amateur qualifiers include two-time Massachusetts Amateur Champion Steven Tasho (Thorny Lea GC), Matthew Leisman (The International), David Pierce (CC of Halifax) and Kevin Velardo (CC of Billerica) .

Also moving on to Championship Proper are former local amateur standouts and current professional players Michael Welch (Quincy, MA), a two-time New England Amateur Champion, Kevin Silva (New Bedford, MA) and David Spitz (Norwell, MA).

The Massachusetts Open represents the only event on the MGA Championship schedule that is open to both amateur and professional golfers. Competitors for this year’s event must have an up-to-date MGA/USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 2.4.

Massachusetts Open Qualifying - Day 2 Notes:
• Three more days of Massachusetts Open qualifying will be held at the following sites: Indian Ridge Country Club (May 24), Charter Oak Country Club (May 30), Waubeeka Golf Links (May 30) and Cranberry Valley Country Club (May 31).
• More than 500 applications, including 40 exemptions, were received for this year's Massachusetts Open Championship.
