Headline: Jack Kearney Claims Medalist Honors at Day 2 of Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Qualifying

Feeding Hills, MA – Former Richard D. Haskell MGA Player of the Year Jack Kearney (Elmcrest CC) fired a medalist score of 3-under par 67 to capture the top qualifying spot during the second day of Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifying, which was held today at Oak Ridge Golf Club in Feeding Hills.

Kearney, who earned Player of the Year honors in 1992 and currently stands tied for fourth in the 2005 MGA Player of the Year standings, made 15 consecutive pars before posting birdies on the final three holes to finish at 3-under par for the day. Earlier this year, Kearney was victorious at the Hornblower Memorial Tournament which was held at Plymouth Country Club.

Finishing just one stroke back of Kearney was Antonio Mancini ( Hickory Ridge CC) with a score of 2-under par 68. Mancini and Kearney were the only two players to break par this afternoon as the third-place qualifier – Timothy Rice (Crumpin-Fox Club) – posted a score of even par 70.

Kearney, Mancini and Rice, along with the other 12 qualifiers from today’s round, have now earned the right to compete at the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship, which will take place on September 20-22 at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg.

Additional Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifying rounds will be held at the following sites:
