Headline: Tony Jackson Claims Medalist Honors at Day 1 of Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Qualifying
Brewster, MA – Tony Jackson (Edgartown GC) made quite a debut this afternoon. Playing in his first ever Massachusetts Golf Association ( MGA) event, Jackson posted a sizzling score of 2-under par 70 to capture medalist honors at Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifying, which was held today at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster.
Jackson, along with the other 18 qualifiers from today’s round, has now earned the right to compete at the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship, which will take place on September 20-22 at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg.
Jackson, who maintains his residence on Martha’s Vineyard, made the turn at even par 36 before turning on the heat and finishing the back nine at a 2-under par 34 clip.
Finishing three strokes back of Jackson and in a three-way tie for second place were Michael Arter (Sharon CC), Emil Koenig (Oak Hill CC) and Dave Houghton (The Captains GC). Interestingly enough, Koenig was one of three Oak Hill Country Club members to advance in Brewster this afternoon. The two other Oak Hill Country Club members who advanced today and will have home-course knowledge come Championship Proper were Tom Bagley (Oak Hill CC) and John Curran (Oak Hill CC).
Additional Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifying rounds will be held at the following sites:
