Headline: Renner Falls to Michelle Wie in 3rd Round of Match Play at U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
Norton, MA – Jim Renner (Plainville, MA) saw his hopes for a U.S. Amateur Public Links title come to an end as he was defeated by a Michelle Wie in the third round of match play at at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.
Renner squared the match through five holes, but Wie broke out to a lead that she would never relinquish after Renner posted bogey on the 365-yard, par 4 6th hole. Wie closed out the match with a birdie on the 497-yard, par 4 17th hole for the 3 & 1 victory.

About the Championships:
The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship was launched in 1922 in hopes of giving exposure to many public-course players who otherwise might not have an opportunity to compete in a national championship. The 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be conducted on July 11-16 at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.

Headline: Jim Renner Continues Roll at U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
Norton, MA – Jim Renner (Plainville, MA) continued his strong play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship by advancing to the second round of Match Play on Wednesday morning.
Renner, who earned a berth into Match Play after posting a two-round stroke play total of 6-over par 146, defeated Derek Fathauer of Jensen Beach (FL) in the first round of Match Play by a score of 2 & 1. Never trailing in the match, Renner was even par for the day after posting three birdies and three bogeys. At one point, he held at 4 Up lead on Fathauer but the Floridian fought back to square the match with five holes remaining. Renner reclaimed his lead for good after a critical par on the 184-yard, par 3 14th hole. Another bogey by Fathauer on the 16th hole sealed the victory for Renner.
Renner will next face Tyler Neal (Tucson, AZ) in the second round of match play. That match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. Interestingly, if Renner is able to defeat Neal he is on a collision course to face Michelle Wie in the Round of 16.
Renner's performance this week is a continuation of his strong play all year long. To wit, he was the NAIA Player of the Year this past season at Johnson and Wales.

Headline: Jim Renner Advances to Match Play at 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
Norton, MA – Jim Renner (Plainville, MA) pieced together two solid rounds at the 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, and as a result earned a berth into the Match Play portion of the event, which begins today at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.
Renner, a standout golfer at Johnson & Wales and the 2001 Massachusetts Amateur runner-up, posted a second round score of 5-over par 75, which gave him a two-day total of 6-over par 146. This year's cut line fell at 9-over par 149. Renner will face off against Derek Fathauer of Jensen Beach (FL) today in the first round of Match Play.
Not included in that list of 64 qualifiers for Match Play was Michael Welch (Quincy, MA), who struggled on Tuesday en route to his final score of 10-over par 150. Welch, who posted a 3-over par 73 on Monday, appeared to be in a solid position to advance after making the turn on Tuesday at 1-over par 36 but the wheels quickly fell off the train as he registered six bogeys - including one on his final hole of the day - and zero birdies through his final nine holes to finish at 7-over par 77 for the day.
Renner and Welch earned a spot at the prestigious USGA event following local qualifying held at various sites across New England.

Headline: Renner, Welch Hanging Tough at U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
Norton, MA – Two local golfers are battling the best public golfers in the world this week at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, which is being held at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.
Jim Renner (Plainville, MA) and Michael Welch (Quincy, MA) both earned a spot at the prestigious USGA event following local qualifying held at various sites across New England. Following the first round of stroke play, Welch and Renner find themselves hovering around the top half of the leaderboard.
Renner, a standout golfer out of Johnson & Wales and the 2001 Massachusetts Amateur runner-up, posted a 1-over par 71 on Monday. Meanwhile, Welch, the two-time defending New England Amateur champion, is just two strokes back of Renner at 3-over par 73. The entire field will take part in a second round of 18-hole stroke play on Tuesday. Following the conclusion of play on Tuesday, the field will be reduced to the lowest 64 players, who will advance to match play.
