Headline: Two Advance at U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship Following Qualifying

Atkinson, NH – Two competitors battled through a 36-hole qualifying round at Atkinson Country Club this afternoon to earn the right to compete at the 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, which will be held next month in Ohio. This marks the second of two sectional qualifying rounds which were held in the New England region this week.

Finishing atop the field was Chris Rivard (Manchester, NH) with a score of 2-over par 146. Just one stroke back of Rivard at 3-over par 147 was Jay Livingston (Kennebunk, ME). Livingston began his qualifying campaign with a superb, day-low round of 4-under par 68 and then hung on to capture that second and final qualifying spot.

In qualifying action held last week and on Monday, local players Jim Renner (Plainville, MA) and Michael Welch (Quincy, MA) earned a spot at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

The MGA annually conducts qualifying rounds for the major USGA Championships, including the U.S. Open, Senior Open, Amateur, Junior Amateur, Senior Amateur, Mid-Amateur and the Amateur Public Links.

About the Championships:
The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship was launched in 1922 in hopes of giving exposure to many public-course players who otherwise might not have an opportunity to compete in a national championship. The 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be conducted on July 11-16 at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon , Ohio .
