Headline: Falcucci Brothers, Arthur Fitzgerald Shine at Final Day of State Amateur Qualifying

Norton, MA – Following seven days of qualifying at 12 sites across the state, the field for the 97th playing of the Massachusetts Amateur Championship is now set.

The final day of qualifying was held this afternoon at Whitinsville Golf Club and Maplegate Country Club. The 129 qualifiers and 16 exempt players have now earned the right to compete at Championship Proper, which will be held on July 11-15 at Essex County Club.

A total of 20 competitors advanced today. Here are highlights from the final round of qualifying:

Maplegate Country Club – 13 qualifiers:
David Falcucci (Cyprian Keyes GC) and Daniel Falcucci (Cyprian Keyes GC) didn’t miss a step as the twin brother duo shot identical scores of even par 72 in Bellingham to capture co-medalist honors. While David was steady throughout the day with a pair of 36s, Daniel rallied from a front nine score of 3-over par 39 to finish his final nine holes at 3-under par 33. David and Daniel, who fired identical scores of 75 during State Open qualifying held earlier this month at Framingham Country Club, led a field of 13 qualifiers.

Also qualifying at that site were 1999 State Open Champion Kevin Quinn (Charles River CC), University of Rhode Island standout Benjamin Spitz (Fairway Club) and Adam Carlucci (Maplegate CC), the only Maplegate CC member to advance in Bellingham.

Whitinsville Golf Club – 7 qualifiers:
Leading the charge at the 9-hole layout in Whitinsville was Arthur Fitzgerald (Whitinsville GC), who fired a low score of 1-under par 69. Fitzgerald, who plays out of the host club, was at even par 35 following his first nine holes but a 1-under par 34 back nine solidified his place as medalist. Two strokes back of Fitzgerald were three players: Andrew Loconto (Heritage CC), Edward Weber (Bedrock GC) and Max Prokopy (Crumpin-Fox Club).
