Headline: John Mazzocca Dominates at Day 5 of State Amateur Championship Qualifying

Canton, MA – John Mazzocca (Walpole CC) put on a clinic this afternoon as he captured medalist honors at Day 5 of Massachusetts Amateur Championship qualifying, which was held at Wampatuck Country Club, a 9-hole layout in Canton. Championship Proper for the 97th playing of the State Amateur will be held on July 11-15 at Essex County Club.

Mazzocca, who plays out of Walpole Country Club, was on fire from the start as he posted a remarkable 6-under par 30 through his first nine holes. Although he was not quite as hot down the stretch, he still finished with a day-low score of 5-under par 67 which was three strokes better than the second-place finishers.

Turning in scores of 2-under par 70 were Bruce Chalas (Pinecrest GC) and home-course aficionado Don Reycroft (Wampatuck CC). A total of seven qualifiers advanced from this site.

Additional qualifying rounds will be held on June 15 and 16 at the following sites: June 15 – Indian Ridge CC; and June 16 – Maplegate CC, Whitinsville GC.
