Headline: Local Amateurs Fall Short, but James Driscoll Advances to U.S. Open Championship

Norton, MA – While several local amateur hopefuls were unsuccessful in their bid to compete in the 2005 U.S. Open Championship, one rising star will be on site at Pinehurst Resort & CC next month to represent the Bay State.

James Driscoll, the 1996 MGA Player of the Year and two-time State Amateur champion who now competes on the PGA Tour, successfully qualified for this year's U.S. Open Championship at sectional qualifying which was held at 16 sites located across the globe. Driscoll, who fired a two day total of 66-67--133, was one of 22 qualifiers to advance at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD.

Earlier this year, Driscoll made golf news as when he finished second to fellow New England native Tim Petrovic on the first hole of a playoff in the Zurich Classic, which was held at the TPC of Louisiana. That second-place finish and a runner-up check of $594,000 puts Driscoll in good shape to retain his PGA Tour card for the 2006 season.
