Headline: Rob Oppenheim Fires 5-under par 67 at Massachusetts Open Qualifying

Ipswich, MA – Former Massachusetts Amateur champion Rob Oppenheim (Andover, MA) fired a blistering 5-under par 67 this afternoon to capture medalist honors at Massachusetts Open qualifying which was held at Turner Hill Golf & Racquet Club in Ipswich.

Oppenheim, the 2002 State Amateur champion who currently competes as a professional on the Canadian Tour, made the turn at 2-under par 34 and never looked back as he posted a day-low back nine score of 3-under par 33. Oppenheim led a field of 21 qualifiers at Ipswich who have now earned the right to compete at Championship Proper, which will be contested at Vesper Country Club on June 20-22.

Finishing in second place was Joe Cunningham (Essex CC), who registered an equally impressive score of 4-under par 68. The top amateur finisher was James Scott (Haverhill, MA) with a score of 1-under par 71. On the day, 15 of the 21 qualifiers were amateur competitors.

A fifth and final day of Massachusetts Open qualifying will be held on Thursday at Framingham Country Club. That qualifying round was originally scheduled for May 25 but was postponed until this week due to the severe rainstorms that made the course unplayable. A total of 19 qualifying spots are up for grabs at Framingham Country Club tomorrow.

A total of 150 golfers will compete at the Massachusetts Open Championship. Championship pairings and tee times will be faxed out prior to the event.
