For Immediate Release: November 9, 2004
Norton, MA – The Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) today announced the departure of one of its staff members, Kevin Patterson . A 10-year veteran of the association, Patterson has served as assistant executive director since 2003 and was previously the director of rules & competition from 1997-2002.
Taking over the position of director of rules & competition and assuming many of Patterson's responsibilities will be Owen O'Malley, who previously served as the MGA's director of member services. Over the past two years, O'Malley has also worked closely alongside Patterson at championship events.
"Kevin Patterson has put an indelible mark on the MGA Championship program over the past decade," said Tom Landry , executive director of the MGA. "His tireless work over the years is a major reason why the MGA is considered a leader in state championship administration. Although his loss will be felt, we know that Owen and long-time tournament coordinator Frank Flanigan will be able to pick up the baton and maintain the level of excellence that the MGA has enjoyed in the past."
Patterson, who also worked in the handicapping and course rating departments over the course of his MGA career, is most known for managing the MGA's successful championship program. In addition to running a tournament schedule that draws more than 5,000 applicants each year, Patterson was most recently instrumental in launching key technical offerings such as online scoring and registration.
