Headline: Play Postponed at Day 2 of State Mid-Amateur Championship; Field Reduced to 75

Canton, MA – Remnants of Hurricane Jeanne stormed through Massachusetts on Tuesday and forced the postponement of play on day two of the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship, which is being held this week at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton. The course was deemed unplayable at approximately 9:30 a.m.

As a result of the postponement of play, the low 60 scorers and ties following the first round will return to Blue Hill Country Club on Wednesday morning to complete what will be a 36-hole tournament. The cut line fell at 7-over par 79.

The original intent of the golf committee was to bring the entire field back on Wednesday. However, due to concerns about the golf course and potential delays on Wednesday the committee decided that a cut was necessary in order to guarantee a 36-hole championship event. The reduced field of 75 golfers will be repaired by score with the first tee time scheduled for 8:00 a.m.

Following the first round of play on Monday, Andy Drohen (St. Anne CC) led the field by one stroke after firing a 4-under par 68. Just one stroke back of Drohen is John Hadges (Thorny Lea GC), who turned in a score of 3-under par 69.
