Headline: Final Day of Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Qualifying Concludes at Fall River CC
Norton, MA – While most of the state was getting hit with rainstorms all day long, the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur qualifying field at Fall River Country Club was simply going about their business. Playing under sunny skies, a total of 15 competitors were able to conclude their 18-hole rounds today and earn a qualifying spot for the main Championship event.
Four players – Arcilio Moura (Stow Acres CC), John Matarese (Framingham CC), Andy Falcone (Indian Pond CC) and Steven Tasho (Thorny Lea GC) – finished with scores of 3-over par 73 to nab a share of medalist honors. While Moura posted the most erratic round of the day (he made the turn at 5-over par 40 and then posted critical birdies en route to a day-low back nine score of 2-under par 33), Tasho calmly secured himself a spot in the Championship. Tasho is a former Massachusetts Amateur champion (1985) who also won the State Mid-Amateur Championship in 1998.
Also qualifying was Andrew Boggini (Framingham CC), who earlier this year advanced to the first round of match play at the Massachusetts Amateur Championship where he was defeated by eventual runner-up Mike Cole. Today, Boggini finished with a score of 6-over par 76.
These 15 individuals – along with the 85 competitors who advanced at
qualifying held on Tuesday and Wednesday – have earned the right to
take part in the Championship Proper, which is scheduled for September 27-29
at Blue Hill Country Club.
