Headline: MGA's ForeKids Golf Program Named Beneficiary of 2004 Crestor Charity Challenge

Norton, MA – The Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) today announced that its nationally-heralded ForeKids Golf Program will receive $50,000 at this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship as part of the Crestor Charity Challenge.

At 27 PGA Tour events this year, including this week's Deutsche Bank Championship, the leader entering the final round is recognized as the winner of the Crestor Charity Challenge, earning $50,000 for the healthcare-related charity of his choice and $50,000 for the tournament's charity – for a total donation of $100,000 per week. The Deutsche Bank Championship selected the MGA’s ForeKids Golf Program as this year’s beneficiary.

"The Crestor Charity Challenge allows guys to give back to the communities, which I have always favored as opposed to having everything designated just in one area," 2004 Masters champion Phil Mickelson said. "It’s performance-related, which I think is cool. So is the fact that (AstraZeneca and Crestor) are giving away $100,000 a week."

The MGA's ForeKids Golf Program, which provides free single and multi-day junior golf clinics for inner-city youth, was launched in 1993 following a one-day clinic Tiger Woods conducted at Franklin Park Golf Course in Dorchester. The ForeKids program has served more than 20,000 Massachusetts youth through summer programs as well as year-round clinics in Boston, Brockton, Cape Cod, Cambridge, Chelsea, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Maynard, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, New Bedford, Pittsfield, Salem, Springfield and Worcester. In addition to helping youth further their interest and skills in golf, the ForeKids program also enables the children to gain critical life skills integral to the game, such as honesty, integrity, sportsmanship and confidence.

“We are honored to be chosen as the beneficiary of the Crestor Charity Challenge at this year’s Deutsche Bank Championship,” said Tom Landry, executive director of the Massachusetts Golf Association. “This generous support will allow us to expand our junior development programming and provide service to even more youth across the state.”

The check presentation, which will include this year’s Crestor Charity Challenge winner as well as representatives from the MGA’s ForeKids Golf Program and Crestor, will take place following the third round of play on Sunday at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
