Headline: Ruschioni & Nunez Capture Second Straight Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship

Marshfield, MA – The team of Jim Ruschioni (Oak Hill CC) and Paul Nunez, Jr. (Longmeadow CC) are batting 1.000 when it comes to the Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship. The duo was victorious in this event last year during their first year of eligibility and made it a two-peat this afternoon by capturing the 2004 title at Marshfield Country Club. Ruschioni and Nunez, who both turned 55 years old in 2003, sealed their victory with an impressive final round score of 3-under par 67 for a two-day total of 7-under par 133.

Ruschioni and Nunez finished the first day of play in a tie for first place with Richard Coville, Jr. (Hyannisport Club) and Mark Connolly (Winchester CC), but the pair was dominant down the stretch. Ruschioni, in particular, shifted into high gear on the back nine, making four birdies on the final eight holes. He tapped in his par putt on the 18th green to seal the victory.

Coville and Connolly shot even par 70 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for third place. Also finishing in third place for the second year in a row was the North Shore team of Chuck Costello (Ferncroft CC) and James Kehoe (Ferncroft CC), who scored a pair of 68s.

Moving up the scoreboard on Tuesday courtesy of a second-day score of 2-under par 68 was the team of Bruce Allman (Segregansett CC) and James Irving (Segregansett CC). Allman and Irving, who gained sole possession of second place, made the turn at 2-under par 33 after making three birdies and one bogey on the front nine. They then cruised to the finish line at even par 35 with one birdie and one bogey.

A highlight from the morning round came courtesy of the team of James Logue (Salem CC) and Thomas Martin (TPC of Boston), who finished in a five-way tie for eighth place. Not only did the duo turn in a day low score of 4-under par 66, but Logue scored a hole in one the a very challenging 190-yard, par 3 6th hole. That ace helped the team make the turn at 4-under par 31, but the excitement was far from over. On the 425-yard, par 4 12th hole, Martin chipped in from off the green (after having to punch out from the woods) to salvage par and preserve the superb round which included three birdies, one eagle and only one bogey. Logue and Martin finished the tournament at 1-under par 139.

Two-time winners of this event, Edward Fletcher (Quashnet Valley CC) and Jack Maher (Hyannisport Club), finished strong with a final-round score of even par 70 and a two-day total of 1-over par 141. The duo was 1-under for the day entering the final hole, but they gave one back on the 406-yard, par 4 finishing hole, which featured a challenging hole location.
