Headline: Alminas Brothers Dominate at Day 5 of Massachusetts Amateur Qualifying

Norton, MA – The fifth day of qualifying has come and gone and as a result 20 more competitors have earned the right to compete in the 2004 Massachusetts Amateur Championship. Qualifying was held today at two sites: Crumpin-Fox Club and Wahconah CC. All qualifiers from today’s action will now set their sights on the 96th playing of the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, which will be played on July 12-16 at Taconic Golf Club.

Here are highlights from today’s qualifying rounds:

Crumpin-Fox Club:
Pete Alminas (Elmcrest CC) outshined the competition in Bernardston by shooting an even par 72. Alminas was the only player to shoot even par as Alistair Catto (The Orchards GC) came in second with a score of 3-over par 75. A total of 12 competitors advanced at that site.

Wahconah CC:
Following in the footsteps of his younger brother, Steve Alminas (Elmcrest CC) turned in a solid round of golf himself – an even par 71 – to collect medalist honors in Dalton. In what was a tight qualifying battle overall [the first and eighth qualifiers were separated by only four strokes], Matthew Scarafoni (CC of Pittsfield) and Mark Chylinski (Berkshire Hills CC) finished just one stroke back of Alminas at 1-over par 72.

The sixth and final day of qualifying will be held on Wednesday at Cummaquid GC and Franklin CC.
