Headline: Vorce Captures Medalist Honors at Day 3 of Massachusetts Amateur Qualifying

Marlborough, MA – Alan Vorce (Marlborough CC) made good use of his home-course knowledge this afternoon by registering a day low score of 2-under par 70 to capture medalist honors at Day 3 of Massachusetts Amateur qualifying, which was held at Marlborough Country Club. Qualifying for the 96th playing of the Massachusetts Amateur was held this week and will continue on next week in preparation for the Championship event, which is scheduled for July 12-16 at Taconic Golf Club.

Vorce, the only Marlborough CC member to qualify today, was consistent throughout the day posting identical 35s on the front and back nine. Turning in scores of even par 72 for a share of second place were Dan Cappucci (Nashawtuc CC) and Garrett Wentzell (Tatnuck CC). In total, 16 players qualified for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship at the Marlborough CC site.

Additional qualifying rounds will be held on June 14-16 at the following sites:
June 14 – Bass Rocks GC; CC of New Bedford; Pine Brook CC; Wampatuck CC
June 15 – Crumpin-Fox Club; Wahconah CC
June 16 – Cummaquid GC; Franklin CC

A total of 747 players are vying for 123 qualifying spots during this year’s qualifying. Twenty-one players, including 2003 champion Andy Drohen (St. Anne CC), are exempt from qualifying this year.
