The second of two qualifying rounds for the Massachusetts Net Team Championship was held this afternoon at Pocasset Golf Club. The 18 qualifiers from today's event have now earned the right to compete in the Centennial Massachusetts Net Team Championship, which will be contested on October 2nd at Weston Golf Club.

The teams of Richard Arsenault (Brookline GC at Putterham) and David Wagner (Brookline GC at Putterham) and Peter Galanis (Poquoy Brook GC) and Paul Galanis (Poquoy Brook GC) led all teams this afternoon with a score of 8-under par 64. Arsenault and Wagner were consistent as they posted 32s on both the front and back nine. Meanwhile, the Galanis team fired a day low score of 5-under par 31 on the front nine en route to their medalist round.

Brian Gouldrup (Thorny Lea GC) and Roger Heepman (Thorny Lea GC) as well as Gregory Bowles (Cape Cod CC) and James Decosta (Cape Cod CC) finished just one stroke back of the medalists with a final score of 7-under par 65. Those two groups edged a pack of four teams that registered a 6-under par 66

These 18 teams join the 23 qualifiers that advanced to the Championship on Tuesday during the first round of qualifying, which was held at Red Tail Golf Club in Devons, Massachusetts.

The youngest MGA Championship event on the schedule, the Net Team made its debut at the turn of the 20th century at The Kittansett Club. Entries for this Championship event are open to two-person teams of amateur golfers who hold membership in the same MGA Member Club and each have an up-to-date MGA/USGA GHIN Handicap Index between 4.5 and 24.0 (as determined by the Handicap Revision at the time of local qualifying), or who have completed their handicap certification as defined on the Entry Form. Only one team from Local Qualifying conducted by each Member Club may submit an entry.

The first of two qualifying rounds for the Massachusetts Net Team Championship was held this afternoon at Red Tail Golf Club in Devons, Massachusetts. The 23 qualifiers from today's event have now earned the right to compete in the Centennial Massachusetts Net Team Championship, which will be contested on October 2nd at Weston Golf Club.

Leading all qualifiers today at Red Tail Golf Club was the team of John Casazza (North Shore Golf Club) and Richard Stanton (North Shore Golf Club), who posted a final score of 11-under par 61. The duo made the turn at 5-under par 30 and kept the momentum going down the stretch to collect medalist honors and edge the second-place teams of Michael Cotton (Mount Pleasant CC) and Jay Hershman (Mount Pleasant CC) and Joseph Superneau (Franconia GC) and Philip Pike (Franconia GC) by one stroke.

Also qualifying this afternoon was the duo of Rick Curtin and Joe Dempsey, who hail from the Championship host site of Weston Golf Club. Curtin and Dempsey turned in a score of 5-under par 67, which was good enough to earn them a final qualifying spot and a chance to compete for the title on their home links.

A second and final day of qualifying will be held on Thursday at Pocasset Golf Club.
