Following two days of qualifying, the field is now set for the Massachusetts
Net Team Championship. Twenty-four teams earned the right to compete at the
main event by qualifying today at two sites: Cohasset Golf Club and The Ridge
Club.
A total of 42 teams, including the 41 qualifiers and one exempt team, will compete at the Massachusetts Net Team Championship which will take place at the Hyannisport Club on October 3, 2002. The Championship, which is in its third year of existence, was won last year by the team Roger Prevey & William Preite from Taconic GC.
The battle was intense at The Ranch GC as the top seven qualifiers were separated by a mere four strokes. Finishing atop the leaderboard was the team of Eric Hill (Greater Boston GC) & Todd Rosenfield (Greater Boston GC), who carded a net score of 10-under par 62. The medalists were on fire from the start, posting a day-low front nine score of 8-under par 28. Just one stroke behind the Greater Boston GC team was the duo of Rich Tarnawa (Mill Valley GL) & Dennis Boldyga (Mill Valley GL). A total of seven qualifiers and two alternates were selected from South Sandwich site this afternoon.
Meanwhile at Cohasset GC, it was the team of Joe Comry (Needham GC) & Ronald Kirkman (Needham GC), who captured medalist honors with a final net score of 8-under par 62 by edging second-place finishers Joseph Allaire (TPC of Boston) & Samuel Dickerman (TPC of Boston), who carded a 7-under par 63.
A total of 17 teams qualified during Day 1 action at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Qualifying as medalists from at that site was the team of John Lacava (Cape Cod CC) & Tim Heino (Cape Cod CC), who posted a net score of 14-under par 58.
Day 2 Qualifying Notes:
• The Massachusetts Net Team Championship was won last year
at Stockbridge GC by the team of Roger Prevey & William Preite of Taconic
GC.
• This event is open to two-person teams of amateur golfers who hold
membership in the same MGA Member Club and each have an up-to-date MGA/USGA
Handicap Index between 4.5 and 24.0. Only one team from Local Qualifying conducted
by each MGA Member Club may submit an entry.

A total of 17 two-person teams earned the right to compete at the 2002 Massachusetts Net Team Championship following the first day of qualifying held today at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The Championship, which is in its third year of existence, will take place at the Hyannisport Club on October 3, 2002.
Qualifying as medalists from the Pinehills GC qualifying site this afternoon was the team of John Lacava (Cape Cod CC) & Tim Heino (Cape Cod CC), who posted a net score of 14-under par 58. The duo from Cape Cod Country Club was outstanding on the course as they finished five strokes ahead of the second-place team of Derek Lisinski (Royal & Ancient Golf) & John Byers (Royal & Ancient Golf).
Following the qualifying round, a total of five teams were tied with a score of 4-under par 68 and were forced to square off for the final four qualifying and one alternate spots in a playoff. In the end, the teams of Chris Kenney (Captains Course) & Vic Anderson (Captains Course), Ronald Peters (Hyannisport) & Peter Delorey (Hyannisport), Spencer Tobin (Wellesley CC) & Dick Hansen (Wellesley CC) and Butch Lombardi (Middlebrook CC) & Mert Caton (Middlebrook CC) all nabbed qualifying spots, while Bob Barry (Pocasset GC) and Dick Mackin (Pocasset GC) finished as first alternates.
