Kenneth & Beth Costello (Segregansett CC) proved that steady play wins out in the end this afternoon by capturing the 20th Massachusetts Father & Daughter Championship, which was held at the Country Club of Wilbraham in Wilbraham, Massachusetts.

The Costello duo edged the team of Ed Polchlopek, Jr. & Kate Polchlopek (Elmcrest CC) by one stroke with a winning score of even par 72. After carding a birdie and a bogey on the front nine, the Costello team made birdie on the 11th and 14th holes to drop them to 2 under par heading into the final hole. Despite a struggle on the 18th hole - where the team posted a double bogey - the even par score proved good enough for the victory.

Meanwhile, the Polchlopeks stormed back from a rough front nine score of 4-under 40 to post a 3-under par 33 score on the back nine to finish at 1-over par 73. The team of Fordie Pitts (Hyannis GC) & Karen Pitts (Wollaston GC) finished in sole possession of third place with a score of 2-over par 74.

The Massachusetts Father & Daughter Championship is an annual event run by the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) that is open to any father and daughter team who hail from an MGA Member Club.

As part of the Massachusetts Golf Association's year-long centennial celebration, the 20th playing of the Massachusetts Father & Daughter Championship will take place at the Concord Country Club in August 2003.
