Kevin Quinn (Charles River CC - MA), the 1999 Massachusetts Open Champion, held on to his one stroke lead on the final nine despite making two bogies in the final three holes to capture his first New England Amateur title at Manchester Country Club in Bedford, NH.

On a day when the leaders struggled in the 36-hole finale, Quinn posted a morning round of 4-under par 66 and followed it with a 3-over par 73 to post a one stroke victory over Matthew Torrance (Shattuck GC - NH) and Dan Arvanitis (Derryfield CC - NH), both of New Hampshire.

The 2002 Massachusetts Amateur Champion, Rob Oppenheim (Indian Ridge CC - MA), who led after each of the first three rounds, made three double bogies in the first 9 holes of his final round and finished in third place.

Championship Highlights
On the final day of play, Brian Coakley (Charles River CC - MA) made a hole in one on the 13th hole for the second consective round on the same hole.
• John Gilmartin (Indian Ridge CC - MA), who finished the event in a five-way tie for 9th place, also posted a hole in one - his coming on the par-3 16th hole.
• Following two rounds of stroke play, a total of 51 players advanced to the 36-hole final day of play. This year's field included 162 players from across New England. This year's cut line was 7-over par 147.
